The Healing Process
Second Skin:
Once you are done getting your beautiful new ink, we will use a medical-grade clear adhesive bandage to promote rapid and safe healing for your tattoo. This clear bandage helps prevent dirt and bacteria from contaminating your tattoo while still allowing adequate ventilation for optimal healing. So, 8-24 hours post-tattoo, remove the first bandage that was applied by the artist. Clean the tattoo with an unscented and gentle cleansing soap. Pat or air dry the tattoo. Now is the time to put it on the second skin provided by the artist. Once the tattoo and surroundings are clean and dry, remove the backing paper on the new piece of second skin (white piece). Make sure your skin is in a natural and relaxed position and apply the second skin as smoothly as possible. Place your hands on either side of the bandage, parallel to the middle seam on the lining. Gently pull apart to begin to pull apart the top liner, then peel it away gently. Pat the second skin to ensure the stick. We recommend wearing the second skin for 3-4 days if possible. After this period, make sure to cleanse your tattoo 2 times a day (morning/evening) with a gentle, unscented cleanser. You may moisturize after cleansing with an unscented lotion (do not use Vaseline petroleum jelly or Aquaphor). We strongly recommend applying sunblock to tattoos after healing to prevent fading. Do not pick or scratch at your tattoo, especially during flaking stages. If it is itchy, applying lotion or a cold compress can help.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
- Do not pick or tear off scabs.
- Do not swim, hot tub or soak for a minimum of three weeks.
- Do not tan or expose to direct sunlight until fully healed.
Note: If you opt out of the second skin aftercare and choose to heal via traditional methods, the artist waives responsibility for the outcome of the tattoo healing process.
